Obstetrics involves the care of a pregnant woman from pregnancy to the delivery of the baby and after birth. This includes the screening of the developing baby for possible chromosomal defects such as Down’s syndrome as well as the detection of structural anomalies such as cleft lip, monitoring the growth and progress of your pregnancy as well as providing support post delivery (eg breastfeeding support and detection of mental health issues such as postpartum depression).
