Dr Tan Gaik Imm completed her undergraduate degree at the International Medical University (IMU). She then obtained her Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (MRCOG) in the United Kingdom. She went on to pursue her subspecialisation in the field of Urogynaecology under the Ministry of Health, Malaysia. This included a Fellowship appointment in Brisbane, Australia where she trained in advanced diagnostics and complex pelvic reconstruction surgery for urogynaecological problems. Her areas of interest include Urodynamics, conservative care of prolapse and incontinence and pelvic reconstructive surgery.
After completion of her subspecialty training, she served in the state of Sabah as its first Urogynaecologist and was responsible for the setting up and running of urogynaecology services in the state as well as provided training in the public hospitals. She has received awards for excellence in service during her service with the Ministry of Health Malaysia.
