Paediatric surgery is a subspecialty of surgery involving surgical treatment from newborns to kids aged 18 years. Paediatric surgery includes the diagnosis of the patient and treatment, specifically in surgical care. It is the only surgical specialty that is determined by the patient's age instead of by a specific condition.
In addition to carrying out the procedures, a paediatric surgeon also conducts pre-operative examinations and preparations, and follows up on the patient's progress as part of the post-surgical care. Their expertise include treating a wide range of common conditions including undescended testes, circumcision and hernia.
