Dato Dr Zakaria Zahari studied Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland, graduating with an Honours degree. After housemanship, he went on to do his district posting and obtained FRACS Part 1.
He then started his Surgical Training in HKL, picking up experiences in Hepatobiliary, Plastic and Orthopaedic Surgeries and obtained his Fellowship from Royal College of Edinburgh. His training in General Surgery garnered valuable experience in Endoscopy, Adult Hepatobiliary and Vascular Surgeries before starting Paediatric Surgery training.
In 1995, he went to Royal Children's Hospital, Australia to further his knowledge in Paediatric Hepatobiliary Surgery, including Paediatric Liver Transplantation. This helped him to handle complex surgeries in children, including Paediatric Oncology Surgery.
In 2000, he was appointed as the Head of Paediatric Surgery, HKL and the National Head of Services for Paediatric Surgery. He is one of the founding team members who started the Paediatric Liver Transplantation program in 2020 and introduced innovative ideas for Newborn Surgeries and Conjoint twins’ separation.
As a committed Paediatric Surgeon, Dato Dr Zakaria strives to do his utmost best to help his patients and their families in their hour of need. With his long experience and accumulated expertise, it is hoped that this will be translated into excellent clinical practice.

MB BCh (RCSI, Dublin), FRCS(Ed) Fellowship in Paediatric Surgery (MOH)
